issue of Today's Facility Manager
This year, Philadelphia, PA serves as the stage for The TFM Show®,
the Total Facility Management Show. Designed to meet the diverse needs
of senior executive facilities managers and professionals in
construction and operations of the non-residential built environment,
this year’s show lineup will offer an added bonus of more exhibitors,
solutions, and networking opportunities.
Now in its 13th year,
the premier trade show venue for facility management (FM) professionals
is co-locating with CONSTRUCT2010, the 54th CSI Annual Convention. Both
events will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from May 11
to 14, 2010.
Targeted Classes
Broadened learning opportunities include free classes in the
Education Pavilion during dedicated exhibit hall hours. And when the
show floor closes, the education program will be rounded out with more
than 75 accredited courses recognized by CSI, AIA, and other
professional organizations associated with the construction industry.
The
education program will offer the most up to date information on
technology, security, design, architecture, leadership, and FM.
Additional crossover topics include architecture, engineering, and
construction. This broad offering will give participants an
unprecedented understanding of the entire building process.
The sessions set out to train professionals, students, and educators
in the FM field to create safe employment environments, support
corporate goals through the physical workplace, and enforce successful
organizational effectiveness. Taught by industry experts and FM
practitioners, the 2010 program continues the 12-year tradition of
offering the most respected educational program available to the FM
profession.

culminate in certification. The Certified Institutional Protection
Manager Training and Certification Course will be presented by leading
national authorities on Tuesday, May 11. This course is essential for
those charged with protecting facilities, staff, visitors, and assets.
Innovation And Networking
In the hall, attendees will have the opportunity to view hundreds of
exhibitors displaying the newest trends and practices on the show floor.
In addition, all attendees will receive complimentary admission to the
General Session with keynote speaker, Bjarke Ingels, award winning
architect and author.
In the keynote, Ingels will discuss how
architecture evolves from the collision of political, economic, and
social interests, as well as interests yet unnamed and unforeseen. As
someone who believes architecture is never triggered by a single event,
Ingels will explain how buildings are instead the result of an ongoing
adaptation to the multiple conflicting forces through society. He will
expose the behind the scenes story of how architecture happens, how
ideas take form, and how shapes evolve.
Ticketed special events
include the Welcome Reception, the Honors and Awards Gala, a
Spouse/Guest tour to Longwood Gardens, and a social networking evening
with the CSI Philadelphia Chapter at Fairmount Water Works.
Once
considered the key international tourist destination of the 1800s, Water
Works owes a great deal to its architectural beauty and riverside
location. It was the first municipal water works in the United States,
and the site has been honored as a National Historic Landmark and a
National Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark.
Two
accredited Technical Tours are available: an Exterior Envelope
Renovation of Philadelphia City Hall, and a 19th century architectural
tour of the Academy of Music and the Kimmel Center for the Performing
Arts. The technical tours are planned to inform and educate and are
available to all attendees. Attendees must pre-register for tours; some
fees do apply.
The Venue
As the networking events indicate, Philadelphia is packed with
memorable experiences for attendees. Famous as the birthplace of life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, “the City of Brotherly Love”
offers much more than cobblestone streets and historical landmarks. It
combines historic preservation and architectural innovation with modern
technology, making it one of the most adaptable, high-tech convention
cities in the nation.
Located in the heart of downtown
Philadelphia, the convention center is woven into the city’s landscape.
Within a short, safe and scenic walk, visitors can access hundreds of
restaurants, shops, cultural institutions, attractions, and other
downtown amenities.
Inside, the convention center is strictly 21st
century. The meeting facilities and technology are state-of-the-art. The
ambiance and amenities are hotel-like in both scope and quality.
The
Grand Hall and Ballroom occupy the historic Reading Terminal train
shed. And the Reading Terminal Market on the ground level has been
incorporated into the design, allowing visitors to shop just as they
have been since 1892. Located in the heart of Philadelphia, the
convention center is easy to reach by plane, train, and car. In fact,
40% of the U.S. population is within a day’s drive of the facility.
Online
registration is open at www.TheTFMshow.com and www.CONSTRUCTshow.com. Those
registering as CSI members receive an association discount.
