Rubbermaid settles suit with Chickasaw Broom Manufacturing and Little Rock Broom Works

Rubbermaid Commercial Products announced it has reached a settlement of its patent infringement lawsuit against Chickasaw Broom Manufacturing and Little Rock Broom Works, both located in Little Rock, AR.

In a lawsuit filed in 2006 in a Virginia federal court, Rubbermaid accused Chickasaw Broom and Little Rock Broom of infringing Rubbermaid’s United States patents relating to commercial cleaning equipment. Under the terms of the settlement, Chickasaw Broom and Little Rock Broom will cease selling the products which were at issue in the lawsuit and have agreed to pay Rubbermaid an undisclosed settlement amount.

SCA Tissue Europe Tops WWF Environmental Ranking

In its annual environmental performance assessment of Europe’s major tissue manufacturers, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) again gave its highest marks to SCA Tissue. WWF, one of the world’s largest independent conservation organizations with a global network that is active in more than 100 countries, annually assesses the five major European tissue manufacturers across a range of environmental criteria, including levels of recycled content, wood sourcing practices, pollution control and transparency in operations.

Battery Recycling Organization Reports Record Year

The non-profit Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) released its year-end data for 2006 yesterday, reporting the collection of over 5.6 million pounds of rechargeable batteries in the U.S. and Canada, through its Call2Recycle program. This nationwide rechargeable battery and cell phone recycling program provides a way to collect and recycle used rechargeable batteries found in products, such as cordless power tools, two-way radios, cordless or cellular phones, laptop computers, digital cameras, and camcorders.

According to RBRC, its successful year can be attributed in part to the increase in participation among national retailers, businesses, communities, and licensee recycling programs.
