Chris Ahoy is the Associate Vice President for Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University. He is an APPA Fellow and the 2006-2007 APPA President.

He is a Six Sigma Black Belt, a Senior Examiner for Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence (IRPE) since 1999 and a member of the 2006 and 2007 national Malcolm Baldrige Board of examiners.  Chris is a certified trainer from Iowa Manufacturing and Extension Program (IMEP) in Value Stream Mapping. Chief Judge for the American Council of Engineering Companies for 2005-2006.

 

Chris has been using Quality Tools such as Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) seven categories of management system for building self-equity and organizational equity, Balanced Scorecard Plus for metrics, Lean & Six Sigma principles and methodologies for process improvements.

 

Chris has received numerous personal awards and recognition including leading his organization in receiving the continuous quality improvement award from the Ames Chamber of Commerce in 2002, the prestigious APPA award for excellence in Facilities Management in 2003, the Iowa Recognition Performance Excellence Award in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.   176 visitors groups have come to Iowa State University’s Facilities Planning and Management Organization from locally, nationally and internationally to see “why”  they do “what” they do to “how” they do things right moving from task to process focus.

 

He is a national and international speaker and author of two books.  “Leadership in Educational Facilities Administration,” published by APPA in 2007.  McGraw Hill published his second book on January 9, 2009 on “Customer-Driven Operations Management.”

Pepe Alicea has served on the TFM Show Advisory Board (1999-2005) and presented at the TFM Show (2002), speaking on the topic of "Service Success: The Art & Science of Facility Management." He is a Pikes Peak Chapter of IFMA Board Member and Education Chair.

Alicea holds the following professional designations: BOMI's Facility Management Administrator (FMA) and Real Property Administrator (RPA). He has received the Pikes Peak IFMA Colorado Facility Awards of Excellence (COFAX) Professional of the Year (2006). He attained the BOMA Institute’s Facility Management Administrator (FMA) designation in 2004 and just completed (March 2006) the course requirements for the Real Estate Administrator (RPA) designation.

In his work, Alicea effectively integrates academic, professional, and personal passion into the FM career and holds Associates of Science Degree, Logistics Management from the Community College of the Air Force along with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management (Human Resources Emphasis) from Colorado Christian University. He has also holds a Master of Arts Degree, Curriculum & Instruction, Adult Education Emphasis from Colorado Christian University.

Kevin J. Borg has spent the last 27 years working for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as a Facilities worker, a Facilities Manager, and now the Director of Facilities and Project Management for the UCLA Athletics Department. Kevin's experience is as diverse as UCLA, with a background in high end residential construction and his involvement in the entertainment industry, he has brought the practical experience of Facilities Management and merged it with his own flavor of practical design build.

During Kevin's career at UCLA, he has managed a 40-acre conference center, over one million square feet of public and student activities facilities, and now sport complexes, administrative buildings, medical facilities, classrooms, and locker room complexes. With a personal mantra of "get it done right the first time," Kevin has helped shape the opinions of today's facilities managers and their supervisors to look at a facility or project from all aspects including the end users and those who maintain the buildings or properties for years to come.

Kevin currently serves on the TFM Editorial  Advisory Board, and the TFM Forum Delegate Approval Committee. He presented at the TFM Show (2007), speaking on the topic of "N.I.C. Reading between the lines". Kevin was a speaker at the TFM Forum 2008 “ Learn to Love design build” and co-presentor “Playing the Facility Manager Game: Tips on how to win”. Kevin was a presenter at the 2009 TFM Forum in March “Think Green, Think Safe , Think Budget” , and he will be presenting “Putting the Concept of 'SERVICE' Back Into Your Facilities Department” in Fort Myers, FL.   Currently Kevin has affilatations with the following organizations; PMI, FMA, CEFMA and STMA.

Mr. Casavant is recognized as one of the world’s leading safety and compliance experts and in a typical year he speaks to over 3,000 people on health, safety, compliance and preparedness topics. His techniques and strategies make him a sought after instructor in over 15 countries including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Netherlands and the U.K. Mr. Casavant serves as Executive Director at the Workplace Safety Awareness Council, a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization dedicated to increasing employee health and safety  in the workplace. His organization offers compliance consultations, webinars and OSHA Bootcamp seminars to employees and employers hoping to become OSHA compliant and better protect the workforce. Over the past three years, the Workplace Safety Awareness Council was awarded a training grant for the U.S. Department of Labor to help the public better understand OSHA’s complicated health & safety regulations. David also serves as editor of the OSHA Advisor, a monthly e-newsletter whose mission is keeping its readers up to date with ever changing OSHA compliance rules and interpretations. In 2003 David was awarded IFMA’s “Distinguished Author” designation at World Workplace in Dallas Texas for his book entitled “Emergency Preparedness for Facility Managers – A Guide to Business Continuity and Safety Planning.” In 2007 the Workplace Safety Awareness Council developed and released the OSHA Navigator PRO, a compliance software product designed to assist users with quickly becoming compliant with OSHA regulations including those involving emergency preparedness, fire safety and hazardous chemical release. In addition to authoring three interactive CD programs on safety compliance, David has written hundreds of articles for dozens of trade magazines.

Jeff Crane is a licensed mechanical engineer and regional property manager with Childress Klein Properties; a leading real estate developer and property management services provider in the southeast. He is responsible for almost 2 million square feet of suburban "class A" office properties in the Carolinas and has over 15 years of industry experience including facilities engineering, design, construction, maintenance and operations management. Mr. Crane has been a monthly Today's Facility Manager columnist since July 2002 (FM Frequency) and has led several educational sessions on IAQ, HVAC and utilities management.

Stevan P. Layne, CPP, CIPM, CIPI is CEO and principal consultant for Layne Consultants International. He is a former police chief, public safety director and institutional security director. Steve is the Founding Director of the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection (IFCPP). He is the author of The Business Survival Guide, The Cultural Property Protection Manual, and co-author of Suggested Practices in Museum Security.  He produced and directed a series of video programs for Basic Security Officer Training.  Steve is a graduate of the FBI’s Police Management Program. * Steve and his firm are responsible for protection management planning, system design/specification, and officer training at over 500 public institutions, governmental agencies, cultural properties, industrial sites, retail complexes, health care facilities, lodging facilities, and more.  Steve serves as an expert witness in cases of due diligence, workplace violence, sexual assault, and security management.
