The Learning Pool

The TFM Show and the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments have formed a strategic alliance to provide an open space classroom on the exhibit hall floor that will educate you on sustainability, environmental issues, high-performance buildings, and energy efficiency. Also, interact with peers in mentoring sessions and find out about degree and certification programs in career development workshops in The Learning Pool.

These informal, peer-to-peer discussions will provide you with the opportunity to interact, troubleshoot, and share challenges.

2007 Career Development Sessions in The Learning Pool:

Review the undergraduate and graduate degree programs available in the facility management profession with Tim Springer, Ph.D., President and Founder of Geneva, IL-based HERO, inc. (Human Environment Research Organization). Learn about the various professional facility management associations and the certification programs they offer from Jim Elledge, Facility/Office Services Manager, Summit Alliance Financial, LLP.

Interactive Planning Using the Sustainability Solutions Navigator

Participants will use an innovative "board game" assessment tool, the Sustainability Solutions Navigator, to help identify and prioritize opportunities for improving the sustainability within their organization and facilities. The tool will be used to evaluate a comprehensive set of needs related to the "triple bottom line" of environmental stewardship, social responsibility and economic prosperity. Participants will also have the opportunity to assess their organization's effectiveness in implementing a range of sustainability practices covering environmental design, operational efficiency, social development, management and reporting. Through the sessions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of sustainability issues and have the opportunity to compare their assessment results with other public and private sector organizations.
